I had to post this immediately after thinking it up in case I totally forget.

Working Title: Para sa Masa

There's this nameless hero. With a love interest in Kim who had a friend named Jay. Story starts in college. where they have roadtrips, have problems in school, love and friendship. It would be a pretty extensive group. There will definitely be scenes wherein a massive amount of alcohol is imbibed.

1 will get a arrested.
1 will have an extramarital affair.
1 will become a bomba star.

There will be a complicated scene centered around Christmas.

Everybody sings. From my description alone, there's about 6-10 songs na.

Can this be a HIFI collaboration project? We may start with a script. Before you know it, baka indie film na. We're not lacking naman creativity wise di ba? hehehe.

Tsek yan!!! Then we'll work on the Pugad Baboy live action movie next.

I bet you were thinking along these lines after watching "Across the Universe", right?
When Jessica Zafra quizzed Ely about the title if a similar movie were to be made with EHeads songs, this is the movie title he gave: "Across the
    University Avenue."

^yung totoong mahal ng tatay ng main character. Reminiscing scene. Or maybe a scene where his dad tells him about his own lost love. :)

I played Superproxy 5 times last night thinking about the appropriate scene. It could use the same female character for both Magasin and Superproxy. ;)

Actually a movie is already conceptualized by Regal films and they already have a partial title for it -- "UltraElectroMagnetic Love". The movie is a Trilogy with stories titled "Tindahan ni Aling Nena", "Magasin" and "Torpedo".

I'm just worried about this because Regal picked newbies who are I think not really into singing. I just hope this movie will give justice to Eraserheads' songs. If they not, eheads fans will surely go amok.

i like the concept, but how about a book (fruitcake-like) or comic book (Ang Kagila-gilalas na Pakikipagsapalaran ni Zsazsa Zaturnnah-type) instead of a musical. I don't think anyone will be able to sing their songs...well. Even if the actors they cast can carry a tune, it just won't sound right.

Here are some of my suggestions:

    Characters

Edgar Cura-college scholar, has Superman and Batman's sense of ethics but occasionally, with the Joker's sense of fun, has the right combination of innocence and wordly wisdom, youthful levity and manly gravitas, spiritual strength and emotional vulnerability that would sweep any kolehiyala off her panties (specially if she digs Pin Medina), it's just that he rarely cares to reveal it because he hasn't found that someone who could match up to her childhood sweetheart and long-time muse

Kim Chua-Edgar's blockmate and best friend, a tomboyish wraith(read: supermodel under construction) who dresses up like she's in a Cyndi Lauper music video, a rebel against the Chinay sterotype (or whatever that is they perpetuate in the Mano Po cinemacopia), has secret unrequitted affection for Edgar (to the tune of Kailan)

Rico Rivero-Edgar's bunkmate/buddy,supersenior, middle class, life of the party, lover of beauty, owns mint condition Ford Mustang named ?

Jay Pascual-roommate ni Edgar, freshman, undergoing sexual identity crisis, with the mestizo good looks of a potential matinee idol

The Roommate-the fourth initially faceless roommate, seldom seen, course/age unknown, always seen going, never seen coming, his roommates agree, on rare, departing glimpses of him is that he exudes the combined aura of Teddy Diaz, Robert Smith and Edward Scissorhands

    Shirley-Rico's most steady girl

    El(eonor) Bimbo-Edgar's long-time long-lost muse

Bhoy Fabuloso-mischievous and lecherous middle aged poet/bard/mad genious, hash brownies and magic mushroom burger chef, a McGyver of automobiles who looks and talks a lot like Pepe Smith, his lifelong obsession is to develop/genetically engineer the ultimate ingredient for his Hash Brownies: cannabis sativa submarinus

    Acts/Story (Song) arcs

    Act I
Edgar's pre-graduation sem-break roadtrip with Kim and roommates(sans the mystrious one) where they will encounter Fabuloso, learn and discover more about life in days than what they have learned in the past 7 (or more, in Rico's case) semesters (Sembreyk, Overdrive, Wishing Wells, Tikman, Policewoman, Alapaap, Fine Time, Tollgate)

    Act II
Parallel story arcs of the friends after the roadtrip:

Edgar didn't graduate after a family tragedy forces him to stop schooling and stay at home for a while; winds up into supporting roles in the affairs of his roommates(Slow) ; looses track of Kim; looses his spiritual compass (Bogchi Hokbu, Waiting For the Bus); regains it after occasional lessons/apprenticeship from Fabuloso, gets his gestalt after finding El Bimbo, now a world-weary but wise and overweight single mother of two tots, who winds up into Edgar's care after El Bimbo dies in a hit and run incident; realizes that the remaining gap in his life is his best friend Kim (Minsan, Lightyears)

Kim graduates and goes on to work for a fasion/women's magazine, gets discovered (Magasin), falls from grace after an internet scandal (Paro-parong Ningning) following episodes of alcoholic excesses(Alkohol, Magasin); is helped by Edgar in getting back to her feet (With a Smile, Huwag Kang Matakot)

Rico gets Shirley pregnant, learns harsh lessons of husbandhood and fatherhood(Maling Akala, Superproxy); triumphs with a little help from his friends (With a Smile)

Jay joins and wins reality star search and wins while keeping his sexual orientation secret; falls from grace after making it public (in another reality show) (Maskara, Hey Jay)

The Roommate figures out in pivotal moments of the friends' lives

    Act III
Reunion/resolution-Edgar woos (Torpedo) and reunites with Kim (Fine Time, Harana); starts a legit business with Fabuloso...a bakery(Para sa Masa! hehehehehe)....and they lived happily ever after an ensemble rendition of Fuitcake!

I was talking about this with my wife the other day. Someone better save this thread and the date so the copyright on the material can take effect.

That being said, as long as the libretto gets done and we get royalty issues out of the way, I think a stage version might work better than a film (at least).

Here's a more extreme Act III Finale:
Edgar and Fabuloso's bakery becomes official bread/fruitcake sponsor of Highfiber's DBAA. Everybody joins in the ensemble singing after taking bites of the fruitcake (Take a bite, it's alright). The authorities tried to join in the bandwagon of coolness by partaking on the fruitcakes, joining the chorus, to the dismay of Highfibers.
The last line (A little lovin' and some fruit to bake, life is a piece of cayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyk!) is sung by the roommate, who really is Teddy Diaz, morpihing into Robert Smith, morphing into Edward Scissorhands, into Ely Buendia in heavy make up.
The fruitcake is laced with Fabuloso's ultimate weed, which has an unusual side-effect of weeding out the corrupt and megalomaniacs, lots of the assholes who joined in the bandwagon fell down around the Roommate during the extended fly-buzzing "cake" note.

Close up on the Roommate, who is now Heath Ledger in his Joker persona, the moviie ends with the camery balcking in to the Roommate's infectious laughing mouth.

^It must have something to do with the html tags I used. I'm sure Luis can fix that in due time.
Let's forget about the tactile aspects for the, and focus on the collaborative aspects of this thing, which I think calls for these suggestions, if we really mean business (in terms of script production and production design, at least).
What we have here are just the broad strokes: the working title, the characters, the storyline and potential songs to be used, The acts need to be be broken down into scenes and then after that, the scenes to be fleshed out into scripts( whether cinematic or theatrical, it's up to this community). It's obvious that it would take more than one thread to organize this work, so I think, there should be separate threads for the following:
    1. Outline of the scene sequences of the acts
    2. Scenes scripts which lays down the specifics of camera angles (or stage blocking, in case of theater), character actions and dialog, and background music and libretto.
    3. The title of the musical
Perhaps Luis would have a better idea on organizing this better, but I think the collaboration should always remain in this community, and threads linked from The Eraserheads Project site.
But before all of this, plot needs to be finalized. We have only, what, inputs from two individuals? Bring in your ideas, guys! No matter how crazy it might be, we need a sampling of that, because in all conventional fareness, this is a a crazy but interesting idea. Let the pats and pokes do the judging.

@quentin-I suggest that you start with that book by Pudovkin

    And finally...

@bird- or tulisan or machinegunsomething, whoever you are, you're not communicating man. This is not a gag writer's convention where someone would yell out the gag number and everyone else would roll on the floor laughing. Most of us have day jobs, and would not waste time looking up your references. You have good ideas, but we can't relate to it.

    Keep moving forward!

wouldn't it be confusing to use the names Edgar and Rico? tanong lang hah..

Ford Mustang's name is Eleanor, lollerz! Lead character suggested the name after his first crush in front of Kim, Jay, and the car's owner while drinking and getting high. A little comedic scene when the car's owner told them they're gonna use it for road trip, (suerte kase since he snagged a chick with his wheelz!) sabay batok ni Kim coz it's impossible since it's a sports car, so they ended up renting a jeepney with a "private" door at the back, preferably yellow, lolz! j/k

^I thought it was a good idea of having oblique references to the runner-ups of that age, as a matter of recognizing them as integral (albeit of lesser scale) pieces of the puzzle that describes that era. It's also a subtle way of rubbing it in that, being runner-ups, they'll always be misjudged as imitators and rider/beneficiaries of the bandwagon that was started by the phenomenon.
    I've several revisions in mind:
    1. The car is a custom-painted convertible VW Beetle named Ringo (again, subtle references), that occasionally breaks down at pivotal moments (like when they meet Fabuloso)
    2. Eleanor's surname is Bambo (another subtle reference). It would be hard to accept that someone with 'Bimbo' as a surname be pivotal to Edgar's enlightenment.

I've tried fleshing out the opening scenes based on the plot (which will be posted on another thread later), and going down to the nitty-gritty while making sure that everything would tie up as well as keeping the work's vision and spirit intact is not exactly a walk in the park. I makes me more forgiving of the the crappy scriptwriting we've been seeing in mainstream productions, given a limited amount of time, low pay scales and star-centered revisions. I hope we can integrate as many ideas we can with that in mind.
    Thanks for the inputs!

^^I've thought of Rico doing that, during one of his drunken rants, as a way of venting out his frustrations on the harsh lessons mentioned in previous posts.
An alternative is we have Fabuloso doing it, but I can't place wherein time and space yet.

^^I was thinking of naming one of Ela Bambo's orphaned tots Julie.
Yes, I renamed Edgar's muse to Mikaela Bambo, or Ela. It's quite awkward for Edgar to blurt out "Eleanor" at the end of the opening dream sequence, and besides, "Ela" provides the continuity with the last "lalala" part of that sequence, unless we want Ely to rewrite the refrain to "Nornornornor..nornor...nornornornornor!"

I have several more ideas needed to be noted before I loose them in the frenzy of attempting to write the ending for Act I (Sa Tollgate, the ending A-minor chord is perfect for the bad news that would prepare the Act II story arcs for Edgar and Rico):
    1. Devices that provide clues to Jay's suppressed identity: Jay has posters of his two favorite superheroes-in-bright-tights( Superman and Green Lantern) flanking the poster of his fairy-godmother-in-tights (Freddy Mercury!). It's strategically located at the wall on the upper bunk that Jay occupies, a perfect background for Jay, exhausted from their adventures, singing the "Hey, now, now" part while loosening up his tired limbs.
    2. I think the most natural setting for the Punk Zappa/No Royalty Album Filler rant, is a Muchas Grasas ripoff somewhere in the lost soul part of Kim's story arc. Suitable for a cameo by Father Marcusmaharishibambarambamdashboboroshi?
    3. "Sa Wakas" could tie up with Fabuloso finally succeeding in breeding his C-weed.
